Google + new look before New Year

Google+ announces a few beneficial alterations to its programs, as a gift to their users. The tweaks included added ability to focus on specific posts and give them special priority, a new and improved Google Bar to add more simplicity to your life, and more manageable Google pages to help users track user flow and notifications and to grant more administrative rights to a single page.

Pump up (or down) the volume!
Sometimes important posts you wouldn’t want to miss from close friends or family can get lost amongst posts from others who post dozens of times a day. We’re adding fine-grained controls that will enable you to “graphic-equalize” and fine-tune your stream. When viewing the stream for a particular circle, you’ll now see a slider at the top that lets you adjust how posts from that circle should be blended into the main stream. That way you’ll never miss a post from that special someone, and you can tweak these settings to form your own “perfect stream.”

At this point, it seems like Google can turn just about anything into a bulleted list, and yet they often aren’t. Even here on SEOmoz, the YOUmoz page has a bulleted snippet, but the main blog page, with more authority and the same structure, doesn’t.

Part of the problem is that they’re new, and Google is still working out the kinks. If you want to encourage Google, though, here are a few tips:

Use a consistent structure, whatever it is.
Keep extraneous code to a minimum.
Test removing your META description or setting it to “”.
Proceed with caution on the last one, as you’re handing control over to Google. Removing your META description is generally safer, though, than using the same description over and over.

If you’re not sure what makes for a clean structure, browse SERPs in your industry – you’ll find plenty of examples, even though the feature is fairly new. See what kind of code Google is already “rewarding” (if you think it’s a good thing), and make life as easy as possible for the spiders.

The snippet will show an approximate count of the total number of rows or items on the page (for example, “30+ items”). The key point – this is being generated by Google from your existing on-page lists. This is getting warmed and is going to be interesting but

Google+ Love It or Hate It, It is Here To Stay?

It appears we always want updated versions, improved versions  and “all new” version of anything and everything. Then facebook came facebook and twitter. And now the google+ is fast becoming the new fashion or style of the web.  Google came with    more graphics and more improvements than facebook. And besides 2 billion searches a day means alot of people will listen when Google makes upates  and changes.   Big brother Google is going to give a huge run for the money to Facebook. In a recent internet survey here is what what we found:

5% of people talking online about Google+ are doing it on Twitter, followed by 24% on blogs and 16% on social networks, so I have to wonder how many of us talking about it are talking about it because we’re /*nerds*/ and #social #media #marketers who can’t help but squeal like schoolgirls about good ol’, sock-em-in-the-eye-with-the-next-big-thing Silicon Valley rivalry in the hottest online movement since the indoctrination of Web 2.0.

Those terms are just some of the emotions that people have around the product. In a nutshell, people are amped about Google+, as you can see from this sentiment chart that shows positive and negative sentiment for Google Plus over the past few weeks.

First, some background. To explain it simply, you can now use images (either a URL of an image, or one you upload) as your search term. The goal is to point you to websites that are related to and/or contain information about the image. More background can be found at the Google blog.

Google’s Panda Is a Page or Site Evaluation?

Google's Panda Is a Page or Site Evaluation?

Google's Panda Is a Page or Site Evaluation?

A site built from ground up for user experience will not even know there has been a change in the Google Algrurthem.  The truth is if you do not have a spammy site or one of those Microsites designed for quick buck,  you do not need to read this article.  Most of those who suffered are those who have been and trying to cheat the system or outsmart the system.  And now Google will punish,  how? with Panda.

Panda is a site-wide penalty, not a page penalty. So if a certain percentage of your pages fall below Panda’s quality algorithm, then the whole site suffers. Fix enough of these pages and you may recover. To be fair, the dates that Panda hit don’t match up to periods when we saw traffic gains. In this time period we’ve rolled out original content, popular blog posts, introduced new tools and made several SEO improvements. In a way, you could say we’re good at not getting penalized by Panda.

Looking at the sites that lost the most traffic when Panda hit, I’m amazed at how poorly formatted most of these sites remain, even months later. A few have made improvements, but it feels like many webmasters decided it just wasn’t worth the effort, gave up, or they simply didn’t know what to do.
